Q: What is Tau Beta Sigma?

A: "Tau Beta Sigma is a co-educational national honorary band sorority dedicated to serving band programs. The sorority operates primarily as a student service and leadership recognition society whose chief aim is to assist the Director of Bands in developing the leadership and enthusiasm that they require of their band. Our goals are not only to provide the band with organized and concentrated service activities, but to give our membership valid and wholesome experiences in organization, leadership, and social contacts."

Q: What is a chapter?

A: The term "Chapter" describes the group of members of a sorority/fraternity at a particular college or university. We are the Chi Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma chapter at The Ohio State University. Tau Beta Sigma is a National Organization, meaning there are Chapters all over the country!

Q: What makes Tau Beta Sigma different than other sororities at Ohio State?

A: Unlike many other Sororities on campus, Tau Beta Sigma is designated as an Honorary Sorority. An Honorary Sorority is a group of like-minded individuals interested in a specific field or goal. For Tau Beta Sigma, that is supporting the band programs and encouraging women in music! Other types of Greek Organizations are: Professional, Service, Religion/Ethnic, and Social (most common).

Q: Are you required to live in a house with sisters?

A: No. There is no designated house or requirement to live with sisters. Our purpose is geared towards service to the band, thus living together is not seen as necessary to achieve that goal. (However, some sisters become so close they end up being roommates on their own!)
